The One Metric Worth Reporting Weekly
Every department has its own dashboard. Here's the single number that should sit above all of them — and why picking it is a strategy decision, not an analytics one.
Ads has its ROAS. Web has its conversion rate. Content has its organic sessions. Every department can defend its own number, which is exactly the problem — six good numbers can still add up to a business that isn't growing.
The fix isn't a bigger dashboard. It's picking one number — usually net new revenue, or a close proxy like qualified pipeline — that every department's work is judged against, and reporting only that number at the leadership level.
Picking that number is a strategy decision: it forces you to decide what "working" actually means for the business right now, not just for each channel in isolation.
Once it's picked, resist adding a second number to the weekly leadership report. A single number people actually look at beats a dashboard people learn to skim past.
